6th Film Festival

Faculty of Informatics, Masaryk University

The enthusiasm for the new possibilities of digital video processing, the needs identified during the preparation of the CD All Five Together, and the desire of FI students to create their own film, to express themselves in both words and images, led to the creation of the first FI MU Film Festival in 2001. Ten film etudes were created in one semester, from the initial author's idea, to the script, to production, digital editing, and festival preparation. "The fact that ten funny films were made by computer scientists is as incredible to me as the possibility of ten English majors writing an operating system. "The festival has been repeated every year since then, and the quality bar and attendance have steadily risen. It is characteristic and valuable that all stages of the preparation of the film, from the theme, through the literary script, technical script, production, editing, post-production, are done by teams of students themselves, under the auspices and collective of the teachers of PV110 and PV113. The difficulty of combining these nearly a dozen professions in the LEMMA laboratory is successfully hidden, and is balanced by the motivation and excitement of the idea of their own film, presented in front of more than half a thousand spectators at the festival evening.
